PT Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC) is an associate entity of PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (Harita Nickel) that focuses on processing low-grade nickel ore (limonite). Through High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology, ONC produces Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP), an intermediate product containing nickel and cobalt—essential materials for the battery and clean energy industries.
Established on August 20, 2021, ONC officially started operating in 2024 in the Obi Industrial Estate, Kawasi Village, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku. Currently, we operate three MHP production lines with an installed capacity of up to 65,000 tons of nickel content per year. With the presence of ONC, we are committed to supporting the development of green technology and future energy.
About Ferronickel
Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) is a product of limonite nickel ore processing containing nickel and cobalt produced by PT Obi Nickel Cobalt.
The manufacture of MHP utilizes High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) technology, initially the nickel ore is melted and heated in a sulfuric acid solution while being given high pressure, so that the nickel and cobalt content is extracted from the other content.
MHP can then be processed into high-value products such as nickel sulfate and cobalt sulfate, which are further utilized as electric vehicle battery cathodes.
